When we create embroidery designs for children, we like to use creative solutions. We try to produce embroidery designs with a playful creativity that children have never encountered before.
A great example of this is our ribbon-legged, appliquéd animals, which are only partly embroidered. The legs - or the tail - can float freely. Children can happily explore these movable legs.
How to use these embroidery designs
We can only use these embroidery designs by using covering appliqué fabric on the animals' bodies. This will cover the ribbons’ end fasteners.
In the first step, the embroidery design marks the locations of the legs - or tail. Where the machine stops, fasten the legs in the correct direction. The length of the ribbons used for the legs is on average 6-8 cm ( 2.36" - 3.14"). You can use cord, thick yarn, twine or ribbon for the legs. When all the legs have been placed, put the appliqué fabric on top of the animal's body. After finishing the narrow zig-zag stitch, cut around the fabric. Be careful not to accidentally cut off your animal's legs! Then, in the final block, the embroidery design is going to finish the satin stitch outline of the animal.
With this process, the edges of the appliqué material are completely sealed. The fabric will never unravel. You can wash it in a washing machine as many times as you like.
Let a kid you know discover these floating legs or tails! We have digitized a sample embroidery design. It is now available for free in our web shop:
